Location Method: Conversion from MDI

Access Description: Drive north from Bannockburn 7.0 km to Glanmire Lake Road. Turn left (west) and drive 1.1 km to Hastings Road. Continue through the intersection and drive 0.3 km to a fork in the road. Take the left fork and drive 2.5 km to a bridge past an abandoned farm. Continue 2.4 km to a gated laneway on the north side of the road. Travel 445 m (1460 ft) down this lane. The pit will be found 11 m (35 ft) east of the lane.



Exploration History

Two shafts were sunk, 20 and 50 feet deep, in the 1850's and 1860's. Messrs. Hill and Curshaw are reported to have worked the site for about 12 years before abandoning it in 1868 (GSC Rept of Prog. 1882-4, p.9).
