Exploration History

1885: One diamond drill hole was said to have ended in ore at a depth of 70ft. 1912: Work begun with stripping, trenching and test pitting. 1912-1913: A few tons were mined from three open cuts and 1 32ft shaft by Tivani Steel Co. 1914: Some ore shipped from stock produced in 1912. 1915: Magnetometric survey conducted by Robinson. (Res. Geol. 1986, Field Report).

Rock Type Rank Composition Texture Relationship

Lithology Comments

Feb 27, 2019 (Sheree Hinz) - Locally, the gabbro is compositionally layered due to variations in the abundance of plagioclase, and the ilmenite and ilmenomagnetite concentrations generally parallel the layering. Less than 2% pyrite is commonly disseminated in the ilmenite and ilmenomagnetite concentrations, and, locally, shear zones are present in which quartz-tourmaline veins containing minor pyrite are concentrated. Gabbro outcrops in the vicinity of the workings contain abundant accessory ilmenomagnetite and ilmenite, and minor accessory pyrite. A small exposure of calc-silicate gneiss is present near the dump on the north side of the power line right of way.

Mineralization Comments

Feb 27, 2019 (Sheree Hinz) - At the three open-cuts, ilmenite and ilmenomagnetite consisting of exsolved ilmenite lamellae in a magnetite host, form lens-like bodies and discontinuous layers which range in width from l inch to 18 feet and which have gradational contacts with massive uralitized gabbro and metapyroxenite host rocks
