Access Description: Drive north from Bannockburn to Cleveland Road. Turn right and drive to the four-way intersection. Turn right (south) drive 300m to a clearing where a camper is currently situated. Walk 82.5m along a trail that heads approximately southwest to a fork. Take the right fork and walk 103.5m to a blaze marking the boundary betwen Concessions A and B. Follow this blaze north for 192m to the corner of a cedar-rail fence (the corner is approximately 12m west from the blaze). Walk along the fence (west) for 120m to a swamp (lowland). This swamp is approximately 45m across. On the western edge of the swamp, the cedar-rail fence will have changed to page wire. Follow the page wire fence for 50m until the fence again becomes a cedar-rail fence. Continue along the fence for another 18m to a swamp. Walk south along the edge of the swamp for 120m. From here walk 30m due east to the western edge of a series of trenches.
A shaft was reported to have been sunk in 1867, to a depth of 37ft by Hastings Lead Mining Co., and some stoping had also been done. Ten tons of galena are said to have been extracted from the working. Four and a quarter tons were reported to have been sent to New York for sale after being crushed, and were found to yield 66% lead. In 1948, Mr. Hogan of Millbridge owned the property. Murphy Mine also has workings reported on Con B, Lot 30 and Hastings Road East, Lots 30-32. The major workings were reported at this site (Con B, Lot 28) and no attempt was made to locate the minor workings on the other lots. (Res. Geol. 1986 Field Report).
