Exploration History

1889: The GSC assayed a mineralized sample taken from the Severn mine, 0.175 oz/ton Au, and no silver. 1893: The property owned by Mr. Pearce, was optioned by the Hastings Mining and Reduction Company. An inclined shaft was excavated and 27 feet of drifting was completed on the 42 foot level. Over 300 tons of material was milled. Approximately 100 ounces of gold was recovered. 1894: The property was reverted back to Mr. Pearce. 1900-1903: The property was acquired by the Atlas Gold and Arsenic Mining Company. In 1901 the shaft was excavated to a depth of 165 feet. The stamp mill was re-opened and the facilities were shared by the Five Acre Mine. New hoisting apparatus was installed and in 1903 development continued and additional material was milled. 1904: Property acquired by the Cleveland Mining Company and extended the shaft to a depth of 185 feet. 1907: Mr. H.E. Lawson leased the property from the Cleveland Mining Company. 1908: 302 oz Au and 60 oz Ag were extracted from 239 tons of milled ore. 1935: The Canadian Straub Mining Machinery Company sent a 1 ton sample of mineralization the Mines Branch, Ottawa. The sample assayed 0.785 oz/ton Au, 0.05 oz/ton Ag, 2.17 percent As. 1936: The Centaur Mining Company Limited completed 70 feet of shaft sinking and 86 feet of drifting and cross cutting. Total amount of development 281 feet shaft-sinking, 651 feet drifting and crosscutting (See OFR 5548, p331-333 for details.)
