Geology Comments

Jun 05, 2008 (C Papertzian) - This prospect is hosted by an elongate, northeasterly trending granite stock about 800m long and 80 to 150 m wide which has intruded carbonate metasediments. The stock forms a prominent outcrop ridge. The metasediments are predominantly fine grained, grey, foliated calcitic marbles locally intercalated with calcareous schists. The granite is described as being medium to coarse grained, with 25 to 60% quartz, 40 to 75% feldspar, and accessory chlorite and pyrite. There is widespred pink to brick red hematite staining and locally strong alteration of feldspars to buff to pale green muscovite/sericite. The foliation is defined by streched and sericitized feldspar grains and by local mylonitic textures. Sulphide mineralization is common throughout the granite, commonly as pyrite in amounts of 1 to 3%, but locally reahing 15 to 25% combined chalcopyrite and pyrite over core lengths of up to 10 feet. Pyrrhotite and magnetite are also present in minor amounts.
