Exploration History

1902-7: property held by Mr. Lundenberger who completed a small amount of excavation at one shaft. 1909: the Gilmour Mining Co Ltd sank a shaft to 75 ft with 210 ft of drifting. A 5 stamp mill was erected in 1909-10 and operations resumed in 1911. The # 4 shaft (at 60 degrees NW) was sunk 260 ft with levels at 75, 125 and 250 ft, connected to the # 1 shaft on which 75 ft of crosscutting and 1,000 ft of lateral work were performed. Mine in production from 1909-1910. The mine was idle from 1914-35. 1934-6: the Gilmour Gold Syndicate, later Gilmour Gold Mines Ltd, took over. They erected a 100 ton mill, raised 500 tons of material, carried out development work on shafts 2 and 4 and sought financing for production. Lack of interest led to a takeover by Cataraqui Gold Mines Ltd (who held over 200 contiguous claims). 1938-40: Cataraqui Gold Mines Ltd dewatered the shafts and completed 1,200 ft of surface drilling. However, they decided to drop the property. 1980: W. Shough and K. Buchanan (Orion Explorations) carried out surface exploration, sampling and assaying (see 'Shough-Buchanan', MDI31C13SE00016). 1981: Gilmour Gold Explorations acquired the property and an examination of the dump and tailings suggested that there were 15,000 tons grading 0.2 oz/ton Au.

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (C Papertzian) - Mineralized veins, 3-5 ft wide, appear to be continuous over a length of 230 ft and a minimum depth of 340 ft in mafic metavolcanics. The rocks are extensively carbonatized and contain disseminated py, cp, bornite, free gold and tourmaline. See OGS 1985, OFR 5548 for a fairly detailed description of the property.
