Exploration History

For previous work for gold, in the vicinity of the 'Gilmour Mine' (MDI31C13SE00017), see also 'Shough-Buchanan' (MDI31C13SE00016). c1942 : a group of 9 claims in lots 30S, 31, 32 and 33, con 18, were controlled by the Grimsthorpe Syndicate. Work is said to have been carried out but none recorded. 1986-7 : staking by Homestake MIneral Development Co Ltd and Paul Tulonen, which led to an option of the latter's claims. Homestake held 67 claims on 1,350 acres in Grimsthorpe and Tudor townships. 1987-8 : Homestake carried out reconnaissance mapping and soil sampling and an airborne EM-Mag survey. 1989-90 : mapping, sampling (rock and soil), trenching (13) and geophysics (IP, mag, VLF) were followed by drilling of 13 holes (764 m). 9 of the holes returned anomalous Au values across widths of 1 m or more. Bedrock mineralization has an apparent strike length of at least 300 m.

Geological Age: Mesoproterozoic

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (C Papertzian) - The property is underlain by metavolcanics, locally interlayered with metasediments. A broad N-NE trending zone of shearing (the Moira River Shear Zone) is developed within the mafic metavolcanics. Rocks within the deformation zone are weakly -strongly Fe-carbonate altered. There are 2 styles of mineralization : quartz veins and silica-Fe-carbonate +/- sericite replacement zones with disseminated to stringer sulphide mineralization.
