Exploration History

1939: Camgar Mining explored quartz veins in dolomitic marbles on the southern shores of Kashwakamak Lake reporting chalcopyrite malachite, tetrahedrite, galena an sphalerite; native gold reported from one pit. 1966: A. Hardie reported 2 diamond drill holes totaling 79’ and noted minor amounts of galena and sphalerite. 1974: G. Bryans reported 2 diamond drill holes totaling 41’ and noted minor galena, sphalerite and possible tetrahedrite. 1986-1988: United Reef Petroleums conducted geological, ground magnetometer and EM surveys, trenching and channel sampling. A new gold occurrence was identified in Con 6 Lot 13 (south half) with the best intersection returning up to 2.42 g/t Au over up to 0.6m. 2012: M. Forget staked the property and examined and resampled the drill-core stored at the Tweed Resident Geologist Core Storage Facility, and followed with prospecting.

Geology

Province: Grenville

Subprovince: Central Metasedimentary Belt

Terrane: Mazinaw

Geological Age: Mesoproterozoic

Geology Comments

Aug 12, 2016 (L Hall) - The property straddles the contact between marbles (north) and stratigraphically underlying intermediate metavolcanic rocks to the south. All are intruded by quartz-feldspar porphyritic dikes containing up to 5% pyrite and 1-3% chalcopyrite disseminations. Gold occurs in volcanogenic breccia with carbonate (and biotite?) rich matrix near the contact between the marbles and the metavolcanic rocks.
