Apr 15, 2021 (Sheree Hinz) - Staurolite-kyanite-sillimanite occur in varying proportions, according to metamorphic grade, in a schist unit that runs along strike for a couple of miles either side of Fernleigh. The muscovite schist is an average of 100 yards wide and 25 m long, stretching from Barrie township in the west to Clyde Forks (Lavant) in the east.

Apr 15, 2021 (Sheree Hinz) - Near Fernleigh kyanite crystals can reach 8 inches and staurolite 3 inches with 1/2-inch garnets and plagioclase porphyroblasts. The kyanite is seen best on the south margin of the schist (15-20 ft); the other minerals alternate in prominence in bands. See OGS 1956 and map P2487 - Ardoch (which clearly shows the schist unit).
