Exploration History

Circa 1891, apatite was produced from about 20 pits and work was conducted by Mr. Boyd Smith. Most of the pits are shallow, but a few pits were observed to be deeper but of unknown depth. An estimated 250 tons of phosphate minerals was extracted from these surface pits, (AR Vol 56 Pt 6).
