Lithology Comments

Sep 17, 2015 (A Wilson) - The dike is up to 75 feet wide, dips to the north and strikes 75°NE. The 200 foot long dike cuts concordantly through granitic gneiss and granite. Dikes of granitic pegmatite intrude banded gneisses.

Mineralization Comments

Sep 17, 2015 (A Wilson) - Euxenite was associated with the feldspar and with black mica. It was also common to see tourmaline with a central core of euxenite. In 1921 a 1593 pound shipment of euxenite was sent to the GSC for testing. The euxenite formed approximately 3.67% of the total shipment. A typical analysis of the euxenite assayed 5.7% U3O8, 2.30% ThO2, 0.48% cerium group elements and 16.31% Yt group elements. Euxenite occurs sparingly together with black tourmaline and reddish feldspar in a narrow zone near the western (foot-wall) side of the dike. Bulk sampling yielded an assay of 0.20% U3O8 (chemical) and 0.08% ThO2 A concentrate from this sample contained 1.7% rare earths. The excavation was 115 ft long, 24 feet deep and varied from 40 feet at the top to about 18 feet at the bottom.

Feb 23, 2012 (D Laidlaw) - Zircon reported to be present (GSC 69-45, p622).
