Lithology Comments

Sep 16, 2015 (C Papertzian) - A vast deposit covering 1,498 ha with an estimated total volume of 31,900 cu m of peat (29,500 cubic metres of humified peat). The peat is generally evenly-distributed and in excess of 1 m thick over the greater part of the deposit. The largest volumes of peat are located in the SE part of the deposit, an area of limited tree cover - in this bog setting, depths in excess of 4 m have been found. However, a significant portion of the deposit is tree-covered. The open areas have fair potential for moss peat production. It would be possible to drain the peatland with ditches and gravity flow to exploit the considerable volume of humified peat, especially in the S end of the deposit where a small scale extraction operation could be feasible. The deposit is mainly privately owned, except for part of lot 25, con 3 (50 acres) which is owned by the County of Lanark. Present land use is for pasture and woodlot.

Mineralization Comments

Sep 16, 2015 (A Wilson) - The dominant vegetation types are deciduous swamp and conifer swamp, with a significant area of mixed deciduous and conifer swamp. The peatland is generally treed except for a bog in the southeasterly part. The dominant peat depth is between 200 and 300 cm. Several small areas to the south of the deposit were found to host peat depths up to 480 cm.
