Lithology Comments

Sep 08, 2015 (A Wilson) - A number of openings exist on the lot, the old phosphate pits being located, principally, on the southeast end of the property. One of these pits disclosed a flat, pockety lead averaging 3 feet wide, and carrying a vein filling of dark green apatite and mica, under a capping of dark gneiss. The vein strikes northwest.

Mineralization Comments

Sep 08, 2015 (A Wilson) - Mica occurs in pocket leads in pyroxenite with calcite and apatite. The deposit at this point consists of pockety accumulations of light,silver-amber mica, associated with white calcite, and small amounts of green apatite. Large sheets of the mica were shipped to Paris in 1860 for use as port-holes in French battleships. This was the first mica deposit to be worked in the province. It was last worked in 1902 by numerous pits (some over 100 feet deep) along a ridge overlooking Pike Lake. The dumps, in wooded areas near the pits, are now partly overgrown and covered with moss.
