Location Method: Conversion from MDI
Access Description: From Lakefield, at the bridge, continue E on Hwy 28 for 3.0 km and turn right at the junction. At 2.2 km turn right onto quarry road. The quarry is located about 1 km SE of Lakefield.
1927-mid 1950s : operated by Canada Cement Co Ltd for the making of portland cement. Now abandoned and slightly overgrown in 1993.
Province: Paleozoic and Mesozoic Basins
Dec 07, 2005 (C Papertzian) - The quarry face exposes interbedded limestones and calcareous shales of the Middle Ordovician Verulam Formation. The thin-bedded limestones are very fossiliferous in the lower part of the quarry (125 species - 1975). The base of the quarry is estimated to be about 10 m above the top of the Bobcaygeon Formation.
