Point Location Description: N end of portage on S side of Crystal Lake.

Location Method: Conversion from MDI

Access Description: From Bobcaygeon travel N on Hwy 649 to Hwy 121, then N on Hwy 121 for 2.8 km to Union Creek. Drive E on the township road for 9.2 km, then follow a trail along Crystal Lake for 1.3 km to a bridge. The property lies 250 m to the W of Nogies Creek (walk across the road and follow the path along the river for about 75 yds).



Exploration History

1954-5: scintillometer survey, 52 pits/trenches and 3,287 ft of drilling (21 holes) by Silver Crater Mines Ltd on their property (optioned) which covered patented lot 25, con10, lots 21, 23, 25, 27-9, con 10 and lots 23, 24, 26-29, con 9. 1956-7: Coballoy Mines and Refiners Ltd (Tait Group) developed a 300 ft adit (about 100 ft below the crest of the hill) with 310 ft of drifting and 135 ft of cross-cutting. 1970: Swiss Oils of Canada Ltd carried out spectrometer and geological surveys on a property to the N - which included lot 23, con 10.

Dec 07, 2005 (C Papertzian) - Radioactive mineral occurrences are erratically distributed in this area, but the most important occur in 3 pegmatitic sills in lots 23 and 25, con 10 (there is no lot 24). Quartz is black and feldspar red or purplish-red in more radioactive locations. See OGS 1956 for a detailed description.

Mineralization Comments

May 16, 2022 (Q Unknown) - Mineral location: peristerite (deep blue) + allanite, uranothorite, thorite, uranophane, cyrtolite (associated with titanite, amphibole and pyrite). Scapolite and fluorite in calcite.
