Mineralization Comments

Jan 12, 2017 (A Wilson) - As reported by Satterly (1943) and Martin (1983), this quarry operated in 1939-1940 to service marble for milling of chips to be used in stucco dash and concrete. About 80 tons of granular material was sold from this site, produced from a 12 m X 8 m pit with a 2 m face. The site is almost completely overgrown now, although the pit and waste pile are still recognizable. The quarry is hosted in dark green amphibolites of the Glamorgan Gneiss Complex. Of all the rocks of the Glamorgan Gneiss Complex, this unit is the most friable, and could serve as a source of road metal.
