1937-38 : Gooderham Nepheline: operated the Fraser Quarry, shipping 3,178 tons of nepheline pegmatite. c. 1942 : J.A. Fraser operated the quarries. The quarries are connected and open to the west with an east-west length of 335 ft.. The lower quarry is 80 ft. long and 10-20 ft. deep, the upper quarry is 225 ft. long, 10-30 ft. wide and 5-25 ft. deep.

Geology Comments

Jan 23, 2017 (A Wilson) - Nepheline rocks are exposed in 3 occurrences over a length of about 1/2 miles, centred on the Fraser Quarry. They occur along the contact between biotite syenite gneiss (which passes north into a magnetite-rich hornblende syenite gneiss) and the overlying marble. The syenite gneiss sequence has a maximum width of about 20 chains. The westernmost occurrence is in lot 29 - a single small outcrop of nepheline-albite pegmatite in a sandy knoll 15 chains north of the concession road. The easternmost occurrence, in the centre of lot 31, consists of 3 outcrops of coarse nepheline-biotite-plagioclase gneiss. The quarry exposes nepheline and syenite pegmatite, marble, nepheline-biotite gneiss and biotite and hornblende paragneiss. . There is prominent pyritic staining. The high Fe content, variable (high) calcite content and the difficulty of obtaining uniform product, led to the abandonment of the quarry.

Mineralization Comments

Jan 23, 2017 (A Wilson) - Two adjoining quarries possessing a total east-west length of 102 m expose interbedded nephelinized paragneiss and crystalline limestone intruded by sills and lenses of nepheline pegmatite and syenite pegmatite. Paragneiss contains abundant biotite. Pegmatite minerals include albite and nepheline plus accessory sodalite, biotite, hornblende and zircon. Zircon, sodalite and corundum are amongst the minerals present in the pegmatite. A total of 3178 tons of nepheline pegmatite were shipped from this quarry and the Gill Quarry in 1937-1938.
