Exploration History

1916-17: G. Padwell - opened this small mine and shipped to the Mines Branch in Ottawa 55.6 tons of hand-picked ore; 62 tons were shipped to the International Molybdenum Company's Concentrator at Renfrew. 1940: Canadian Molybdenum Mines Limited -Expansion of the old pit. The pit is 36 m long, 10 m wide and 3.5 m deep. 1966: Georgia Lake Mines Ltd.: acquired the property and performed magnetic, induced polarization and geochemical surveys and diamond-drilled 4 holes for a total of 428 feet (Monmouth #4).

Jan 29, 2017 (A Wilson) - Molybdenite occurs in a flat-lying mineralized pyroxenite zone at the contact between limestone and syenite gneiss.

Mineralization Comments

Jan 29, 2017 (A Wilson) - About the center of the pit there is a mass of rusty basic pegmatite; perhaps 10 x 3 feet in size which contains much pyrite and a few large flakes of molybdenite.


Dec 07, 2005 (D Laidlaw) - 1916: ore graded 1.4 molybdenite from which 1,268 lbs of molybdenite was recovered. 1917: 62 tons of 1% molybdenite ore was shipped.
