Exploration History

1898 : 2 pits/shafts, 12 and 15 ft deep, both probably put down by Mr. Gordon. Au was reported, with a little molybdenite and considerable pyrite. 1901-2 : surface exploration by the Haliburton Company (the Land and Immigration Company) - an open cut 50 x 6 x 15-20 ft deep, and (a few hundred feet S) a 'small excavation' from which about 40 tons of rock were removed (suggested 10-15 % molybdenite in the dump, about 2 ton in size). 1911 : about 50 lbs of flake molybdenite were taken out for 'experimental purposes' by an English steel company.

Geology

Province: Grenville

Geological Age: Mesoproterozoic

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (C Papertzian) - Veins, and less-regular bodies of pyrite, in pyroxenite, carry sparse molybdenite. In the past the open cut yielded the most promising amounts of molybdenite which appears to have been mined out. The pyroxenite contains pegmatitic patches and a granite pegmatite is reported, but exposure is poor. The ore zone was said to contain py, marcasite, po and cp with the mo.
