Access Description: The peatland is adjacent to Silver Sands Lake Road, which connects the cottages on Silver Sands Lake to Highway 69. This road comes to within 40 m of the edge of the peatland.
Apr 04, 2011 (A Wilson) - As a whole, the average thickness across Peatland 31E-55 is 1.4 m and in the area containing a peat layer thickness greater than one metre it is 2.2 m. The total peat volume is 0.623 x 106 m3. The area with more than one metre of peat contains 0.499 million m3 of peat of which 0.427 million m3 is well humified. Peat 31E-55 has very little potential horticultural peat development due to the lack of a thick surface layer of unhumified peat, however, it does have potential for fuel peat development on a small scale.
