Apr 04, 2011 (A Wilson) - Satterly noted that the diatomite forms only a thin layer and is too intimately associated with sand, silt or clay to allow for a clean recovery if worked. A sample collected in 1928 by Thomas Heys and Sons from lots 7 to 10 Con 8 Stisted Township returned an analysis of 75.8% SiO2 and 14.07% Al2O3. Satterly collected a sample of clay from lot 10 concession 9. It was originally reported to be fire clay. Analysis by the University of Toronto Ceramic Engineering Department suggested that the clay may have potential for brick clay or other heavy clay properties.
