Lithology Comments

Apr 14, 2011 (A Wilson) - The deposit reportedly comprises 4 to 6 feet of dark brown diatomaceous peat underlain by silt or sand. The dry peat is self-calcining, leaving a pink and gritty residue containing diatoms and sponge spicules.




Mineralization Comments

Apr 14, 2011 (A Wilson) - The typical chemistry of the dried raw diatomite is 52.10% SiO2, 11.44% Al2O3, 2.46% Fe2O3, 2.16% CaO, 1.00% MgO. The typical chemistry of the calcined diatomite is 76.64% SiO2, 14.34% Al2O3, 2.76% Fe2O3, 2.71% CaO, 1.31% MgO.
