Jan 27, 2011 (A Wilson) - The quarry is approximately 60 to 80 m wide, 70 m deep and 3 to 8 m height. The stone is a pelitic gneiss. It is predominately grey with a bluish tinge and is composed of microcline, plagioclase, quartz, biotite and garnet.
Jan 27, 2011 (A Wilson) - The garnet content ranges from 2 to 20%. Locally there are bands of rusty weathering quartz-feldspar-garnet gneiss containing up to 1% graphite.
