Exploration History

The pit was in operation for over 40 years. The plant has changed locations several times as the clay became exhausted. Approximatley 300,000 red, soft-mud brick are made each season of four months.

Sep 03, 2015 (A Wilson) - Bricks were made from a 3 to 8 foot thick layer of Leda clay. The output of this brick yard was 14,000 bricks per day.

Sep 03, 2015 (A Wilson) - In the summer of 1885, machine-made red bricks were produced at the rate of 9000 per day and sold at $10.00 per 1,000.
