Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (C Papertzian) - The Darling Iron Deposit consists of several small, widely-spaced lenses of magnetite mineralization that are contained within a NE-trending succession of mafic volcanics and minor marble. Mineralization consists of fine-grained magnetite disseminated within the mafic volcanic in a similar way to that at the Yuill deposit. This is probably volcanogenic in origin. Fe 24.21 % -61.17 % (1909-10) Easton (1988) states that (concerning cons 3, 4 and 5) near Little Green Lake the magnerite is hosted in altered gabbro of the Lavant Gabbro Complex. NE of Hwy 55 the host rock is protomylonitic gabbro of the Lavant Gabbro Complex within the RLMZ. Magnetic anomalies over these deposits (1952, 1985) indicate that they might be larger than previously thought.
