Location Method: Conversion from MDI
Access Description: Take Hwy 509 N from Hwy 7 (near Sharbot Lake), through Clarendon and Snow Road to Ompah. Follow Hwy 506 E 1.6 km, past Ompah to the Canonto Road. Follow this for 3.2 km to a seasonal gravel road which passses over the dam between Palmerston and Canonto Lakes. Continue on this road for 1.4 km to a junction at an open area where a bush road turns W. Follow this road for 2.7 km, around Marl and Summit Lakes, to the site at the N end of Summit Lake.
1957-64: Thompson found magnetite in Zone 'A' while prospecting with a magnetometer and initial staked claims. Mag and gravity surveys, stripping, trenching and 6 diamond drill holes sunk by Thompson and Tomclid Iron Mines Ltd. 1965-1968: 21-year leases obtained on 8 claims. 1977-1978: TMF Resources began mining the deposit for heavy aggregate (aggregate and powder) for nuclear shielding purposes, for Ontario Hydro. The magnetite concentrate had and average specific gravity of 4.4. Crushed waste rock was sold as road-fill. Until 1988 the mining rights were held by Armart Holdings and the Wm. R. Barnes Co. The open cut measured about 60 x 12 x 8 m deep and the deposit was estimated to contain 3 million tonnes of ore averaging 40% Fe. The property was inactive until late 1997: contracted to Ontario Hydro again - 12,000 tonnes of 25 % magnetite was broken and 3,000 tonnes shipped and stock-piled at this time. 1997: Jarvis Resources Ltd signed a letter of intent to acquire Tomclid Iron Mines Ltd. 1998: Operated by Coloured Aggregates Inc. 2009-present: Ferromin Inc. acquired the property and the pit is mined seasonally.

Feb 12, 2021 (Sheree Hinz) - Banded, disseminated and massive magnetite is believed to be a skarn deposit associated with a diorite which intrudes 100 m to the W. Paragneiss, probably sedimentary, hosts the magnetite deposit which is about 5 m wide in the NE, 20 m wide in the centre and 12 m wide in the SW. It is about 270 m long and over 60 m deep. 2 major zones have been identified. Some amphibolite is banded within the magnetite. The deposit contains over 1/2 million tonnes of magnetite of a quality suitable for heavy aggregates. See OGS 1980. The presence of chalcopyrite has been noted on lots 14 and 15, con 3 (1900).

Feb 12, 2021 (Sheree Hinz) - Mineralized zone of massive and disseminated magnetite. Three vertical holes (1962) intersected mineralization to depths of 160, 100 and 81 feet. Two grab samples assayed 60% and 52% Fe.
Date: Aug 30, 2002
Geologist: C Papertzian
Notes: The property was visited on July 16th, 2002 along with a compliance officer from the Minstry of Northern Development and Mines from Sudbury. A number of ore piles were still on the property but the pit was inactive at the time of the visit. No shipments of magnetite had occurred this year. The pit was water filled.
