Dec 07, 2005 (C Papertzian) - Samples # 818a and 819 and 2 channel samples (818z, 819z) were taken along Hwy 41 by the OGS. This location is described as part of the Dungannon Formation which is composed of 2 marble units within Hermon Fornation metasediments. The marble is largely calcitic but contains a number of discontinuous dolomitic units as well as some amphibolite and garnet-mica-schist. Channel sampling indicated a non-uniform marble chemistry. The marble at the described location was white with minor graphite and silicate minerals and fine-grained - showing good potential as a filler. Samples 816-820 were also taken from the NE part of the township and are highly calcitic (CaO > 54 %) . Dolomitic marble occurs in the N end of the belt and also has a low SiO2 content. Samples # 810-814 were taken from the NW part of the township; # 815, 821-2 from the centre; # 823 from the S and # 721-3 near the W boundary.
