Point Location Description: Ruby Mine pit near NE corner of township, east of Snake Creek.
Location Method: Conversion from MDI
1910: staked by J. Coyne and T. Ryan, and transferred to J.J. Jewell and Co., who carried out exploratory work. Bancroft Mines Syndicate worked the occurrence from 1922 to 1924.There was a quarry [40 by 50 feet ] as well as a shaft [ the Jewell Ruby Mine ] which was sunk in the valley several hundred feet from the quarry. Over 1360 tonnes of picked ore and concentrates were shipped to the Carborundum Company in New York for use in the manufacture of sandpaper. 1973: Labrador Mining carried out beneficiation studies. 1976: C.C. Allen carried out geological mapping. 1991: R.V. Stewart carried out geological mapping. 1993: R. Stewart drilled 1 DDH totalling 107 m. 1999-2000: R. Stewart carried out geological mapping. 2010: A.J. Leblanc and D. Morrison carried out prospecting and sampling.

Dec 07, 2005 (C Papertzian) - The area is underlain by paragneiss and metavolcanics of the Hermon Formation which have been intruded by syenitic and granitic rocks. The main open - cut was sunk on biotite - hornblende - gneiss about 60 m. wide. The garnets are deep red, round, fractured and range from 0.1 mm to 10 mm in size.
