Exploration History

Bancroft Mines Syndicate worked the occurence from 1922 to 1924.There was a quarry [40 by 50 feet ] as well as a shaft [ the Jewell Ruby Mine ] which was sunk in the valley several hundred feet from the quarry.

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (C Papertzian) - The area is underlain by paragneiss and metavolcanics of the Hermon Formation which have been intruded by syenitic and granitic rocks. The main open - cut was sunk on biotite - hornblende - gneiss about 60 m. wide. The garnets are deep red, round, fractured and range from 0.1 mm to 10 mm in size.
