Point Location Description: Diamond symbol 'GAR 3 ', 2.5 Km. ESE from NW corner of Ashby Township.

Location Method: Conversion from MDI

Access Description: The occurrence is located in the south part of a large garnet-biotite gneiss outcrop area shown on Evans' [1964] map.It is reached by a logging road from Highway 500 [shown on both Evans' map and the NTS map ].The pit is immediately east of the road , 550 m. south of the stream entrance to a small, unnamed lake just east of Parkhurst Lake. [adjacent to the road].



Exploration History

A small pit has been blasted out of a sillimanite-garnet gneiss outcrop.[OGS 1964,GR 26 ] The pit is 1.5m by 2.4m and 0.6 to 1m deep.

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (C Papertzian) - The area is underlain by paragneiss and amphibolite of the Hermon Formation. These rocks are intruded by late quartz monzonite 450m to the west.[ Evans 1964, Lumbers 1980 ].Garnet occurs sporadically in the gneiss units shown by Evans [1964]. See OGS 1981, MDC 22 for a good description of the occurrence.
