Lithology Comments

Jun 12, 2023 (Therese Pettigrew) - At the north end of Lot 14, Concession 8, Monteagle Township, there is a small open cut on a granite pegmatite dike. This open cut is located near the top of the north face of a steep hill over looking Salmon Trout Lake. It measures 30 by 40 feet in diameter and has two steps, of 6 feet, cut into the hillside. The granite pegmatite cuts amphibolite and can be traced for 400 feet to the west along the face of the ridge (Hewitt, 1955).

Mineralization Comments

Jun 12, 2023 (Therese Pettigrew) - The pegmatite consists of potash feldspar, quartz, and soda spar, with rare allanite. There is too much graphic granite present in the dike for it to be of commercial interest as a feldspar deposit (Hewitt, 1955). :The pegmatite in the pit is a homogeneous pink quartz-feldspar pegmatite. The predominant feldspar is microcline with a little albite (5 percent). Most of the microcline crystals contain some quartz intergrowth. The microcline occurs as 0.3 to 1 m masses surrounded by quartz-feldspar intergrowth and grey quartz. Quartz in segregations is estimated at 10 percent; more is present as part of the intergrowth. There is almost continuous outcrop of pegmatite for 60 m west of the hydro line until it is lost in overburden. An old stripping on the face of the hill exposes the pegmatite. There is an irregular contact with the gneiss at the east side of the pit. The pegmatite dips to the south into the hill. The thickness of the body is not exposed, but is in excess of 4 m (Storey and Vos, 1981).
