Exploration History

1957: P.J. McLean dug 5 pits or trenches on the showing in lot 5, exposing a width of 5-35 ft of pegmatite which gave notable geiger values. In lot 6 are 2 trenches, 80 ft apart, exposing a width of 3-17 ft of pegmatite. These gave only low geiger readings. 1968: scint survey by Cam Mines Ltd over this area. 1977: Forefront Consolidated Exploration Ltd drilled 3 holes (197, 305, 231 ft) on lots 5 and 6 N of con 16. Another 7 holes were drilled in con 1 (lots 4, 5 and 6) and con 2 (lot 5) of Monteagle township for a total of 1,835 ft - the Mell-Quirke occurrence. This drilling was follow-up to a previous radiometric survey.

Geology

Province: Grenville

Geological Age: Mesoproterozoic

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (C Papertzian) - Radioactive yellow-brown to pink peristerite leuco-granite pegmatites from 1.5 to 10.7 m wide and over 457 m long (on lot 5) intrude marble. Irregular lenses of pink calcite are present, with disseminated molybdenite in pyroxene. Weaker radioactivity on lot 6 in a pegmatite 0.9 to 5.2 m wide and at least 24.4 m long.
