Province: Grenville

Geological Age: Mesoproterozoic

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (C Papertzian) - Open fissures and large vugs have been developed in granite and pegmatite, as well as in small, isolated inclusions of marble in these rocks. The fissures are filled with crystals of : calcite, apatite, titanite and pyroxene and, in the adjoining pegmatite, there are scattered crystals of garnet and zircon or cyrtolite. The opening contains about 15 % apatite crystals intergrown with calcite and pyroxene. The apatite crystals reach about 1 ft long and 6 inches diameter. Other small showings in the vicinity contain the same mineral assemblages, but the apatite content is low. Radioactive minerals are reported to have been found in these showings.
