Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (C Papertzian) - This sillimanite-rich schist of the Hermon Formation is situated within the McArthur's Mills Shear Zone (characterized by E-W belts of marble and intercalated paragneiss). Sillimanite occurs in fibrous masses and knots and ranges from 15-25 % in grade. The main exposure of sillimanite gneiss is about 250 m long (25 % sillimanite at centre and 5-10 % at ends) and though is of small extent, this grade warrants economic interest.
