Access Description: The Graf Quarry property is located approximately 5.6 km southeast of Bancroft, in the central eastern part of Faraday Township. The mining claim covers lots 41 and 42 West of Hastings Road and is situated along Spurr Lake Drive on the northeast side of LAmabel Lake approximately 400 m west of Highway 62.
The Barker Marble Quarry produced calcitic and dolomitic marble intermittently and under different owners, from 1908 to the late 1930s (Kingston and Papertzian 1995). 1984: V. Di Girolamo carried out stripping. In 1994, Senator Stone Supply Ltd. drilled 4 holes (totaling 104 m) at 2 sites on the former Barker Marble Quarry property (Gallo 1994). The results of the drilling prompted Senator Stone to open a 10 m long by 3.5 m high test quarry that was then enlarged to 30 m by 24 m. Several 8 to 10 ton blocks were extracted and shipped to Italy, Japan and the United States for finishing and display (Gallo 1994). The stone was displayed and marketed under the trade name “Temagami Pink” (Gallo 1994). In 2002, Senator Stone brought the quarry to mining lease (Sangster et al. 2004). In 2014, test quarrying in the Graf Quarry, was conducted by Mr. Graf to expose a new face of a mottled pink brecciated marble. The quarry still holds an active license with intermittent small-scale quarrying occurring on the site.
