Point Location Description: Pit ' Dol ' S of Bancroft.
Location Method: Conversion from MDI
Circa 1905 : the Central Ontario Granite and Marble Company sunk test pits and trenches and opened a 50 x 50 x 4-10 ft deep quarry. It was connected to the railway by a spur line 11/2 ml long. Although blocks were produced, no shipment is reported - due to the rusty weathering and coarseness of the marble (not suitable for inside use). 1953-4 : a small quarry was opened in the S side of the hill and test shipments were made.

Geological Age: Mesoproterozoic
Dec 07, 2005 (C Papertzian) - The marble is white, dolomitic and coarse-grained and contains considerable pyrite. It is too brittle for sawing. The unit is over 100 ft wide .
