Lithology Comments

Aug 02, 2011 (A Wilson) - One zone of graphite was exposed in 1943. The graphite-bearing limestone was approximately 5 feet in width, strikes N20E and dips 80°W. A series of pits and trenches were developed over a length of 1900 feet. Massive graphitic lenses occur within the area, and it is not uncommon to see 12" wide massive to semi-massive graphite layers in the calcitic marble.

Mineralization Comments

Aug 02, 2011 (A Wilson) - Graphite occurs as disseminated flakes I narrow bands. Phlogopite is commonly found associated with the graphite. The graphite flakes range from 1/20 to 1/10 of an inch in diameter, but are occasionally up to ¼ inch in size. The GSC reported that near the centre of the D trench, the graphitic zones ranged from 1.5 feet to 2 fee tin width and contained over 50% flake graphite. The deposit consists of disseminated and massive graphite. The massive graphite consists of l to 5 cm angular masses of fine-grained carbonate (25 percent) and graphite (75%). These masses make up about 55% of the rock. Grab samples collected by R. V. Stewart ranged from 8.6% to 54.9% graphite
