May 03, 2011 (A Wilson) - Apatite occurs in a black calc-silicate gneiss. The gneiss contains layers of coarse- and fine-grained apatite-calcite-biotite-feldspar gneiss. A 20 m wide and 400 m long, pink, homogeneous granite pegmatite cuts interlayered marble, paragneiss and apatite-bearing calc-silicate gneiss.

May 03, 2011 (A Wilson) - Green apatite is disseminated in both sections, but is coarser grained in the coarser grained gneiss. Apatite concentrates made from the fine-and coarse-grained gneiss contained 10.7 and 11.2 per cent respectively of apatite. This concentrate could be used for fertilizer or chemical production. As well, biotite can be removed completely from the samples by screening and magnetic separation. Relatively pure microcline comprises approximately 10% of the dyke, but most microcline occurs within graphite granite intergrowths. A grab sample collected by the OGS in 1978 returned 29 ppm U3O8, 1.310% Th and 2.0 K2O%. Trench samples averaged 0.02 to0.025% U3O8, and 0.35 to 0.40% Th. The best drill intersection assayed 0.025% U3O8, over 1.8 meters. Pyrochlore, uranothorite, allanite, and zircon occur in the central part of the pegmatite dike, often associated with magnetite, pyroxene and hemitization.
