Lithology

Lithology Data
Rock Type Rank Composition Texture Relationship
Marble 1 Graphitic Host
Paragneiss 2 Adjacent

Lithology Comments

Aug 02, 2011 (A Wilson) - Graphitic marble and paragneiss are interbedded. The graphite-rich bands range from a few inches to 2 feet in width. At the pit, the marble and paragneiss are interlayered, trending 070/55S. The marble is rusty weathering and splits readily into 1-3 cm thick layers. Graphite is concentrated along these breaks between the layers. Much of the marble contains fine flakes of phlogpite and graphite. There is an increase in graphite in the rocks in the vicinity of the pit, but is mode of occurrence is similar to that found elsewhere in the area.

Mineralization Comments

Aug 02, 2011 (A Wilson) - Flakes of graphite up to 1/8 inch in size made up to 5-10% of the rock in richer bands. Graphite flakes up to 3 mm are parallel to the layering/gneissosity. The OGS collected specimens from the site for trace element geochemistry. A typical analysis assayed: 33 ppm Pb, 620 ppb Sr, 128 ppm Zn, 3 ppm As, 350 ppm Ba, 80 ppm Cu, 90 ppb Hg, 33 ppm Li, 480 ppm Mn, 37 ppm Ni, 100 ppm V and >300 ppm B.
