Pegmatite 1 Granite Intrudes
Gneiss-Unsubdivided 1 Host
Marble 3 Adjacent
Granitoid-Unsubdivided 4 Near

Lithology Comments

Sep 09, 2011 (A Wilson) - The pegmatite dike is 2-3 m in width and cross cuts biotite-hornblende gneisses, minor amphibolite. Anomalous radioactivity is restricted to a fracture in a granite pegmatite. The emplacement of the dike is partially controlled by jointing in the gneisses with a strike of 175° and a dip of 70°E. The radioactivity may be related to the margin of the Hurd Lake granite, located approximately 200 m to the south.

Mineralization Comments

Sep 09, 2011 (D Laidlaw) - A grab sample collected by the OGS in 1977 (R77-30-2) from a radioactive “high” spot in the dike assayed 160 ppm U3O8, 647 ppm Th and 185 ppm Pb. A small 10 cm wide dike on the opposite side of the highway also is radioactive. Sample R77-30-3 collected from this site analyzed: <2 ppm U3O8, 25 ppm Th. A sample from the adjacent biotite schist returned: 700 ppm Ni, 2000 ppm Cr, 165 ppm Zn, 95 ppm Li and 65 ppm Cu. Grab sample S6-2 collected by the OGS in 1979 returned: 48 ppm Cu, 32 ppm Zn, 34 ppm Pb and <20 ppm Hg.
