Exploration History

1890 : specular hematite was found on lot 16 (E half), con 4 and 2 or 3 pits were sunk into it. It was traced for 2-300 ft (?). 1909 : work was reported (7 ft pit) on lot 23, con 11 where 2 veins of specular hematite crossed to produce mineralization over an area 30 x 35 ft. The vein appears to extend for 1,500 ft along strike to the NE and for about 60 ft on each side of it the marble contains small, disseminated pods of hematite. 1956 : (S of Three Mile Bay, White Lake - lot 21, con 9) a small, 2 inch wide zone of hematite lies at the sheared contact between marble and schist; exposed on a riverbank. East of White Lake small quartz veins often cut the marble and carry minor earthy, red hematite and specularite. All other showings are simply part of a list of reported occurrences in Eastern Ontario (1952).
