Point Location Description: About 1 km SSW of Fitzroy Harbour, N of the Mississippi River and CNR.

Location Method: Conversion from MDI

Access Description: Situated close to the Ottawa River, about 1/4 ml W of Fitzroy Harbour and opposite the S end of Victoria Island.



Exploration History

Mid-1800s : quarry for dimension stone worked for many years but abandoned at aroud the turn of the century - 60 x 50 x 10 ft deep. Sample # 177 (1938). The stone was used in the original Parliament Buildings in Ottawa.

Geology Comments

Dec 07, 2005 (C Papertzian) - A coarse-grained but compact, grey and bluish-white calcitic marble. Impurities mostly of biotite, graphite and an occasional inclusion of gneiss and schist.
