Dec 07, 2005 (C Papertzian) - A sample of clay from the bank of the Carp River, representing an average of 12 ft from the surface. It was plastic and smooth but stiff and had poor drying qualities (shrinkage 8.5 %). It burned to a fairly hard, porous red but easily overfired and softened. Another sample, from a depth of 30 ft, was taken near the wharf. It was more limey and silty but proved to fire in a similar way.
