Exploration History

1874-1878: Farquharson, McLaughlin and Hartney ran the mill for 4 years. 1878-1890: the marble was used for monumental purposes, and to a small extent for ornamental purposes such as table tops and mantel pieces. It has been used for a number of public buildings among others in the House of Commons at Ottawa (RCM 1890).

Lithology Comments

Sep 26, 2011 (B Wilson) - The marble is described as being blue-grey in colour. The marble beds strike northeast and dip southeast at 30°. In the 1890's this stone was marketed as Ottawa Valley marble.




Mineralization Comments

Sep 26, 2011 (A Wilson) - A grab sample collected by G.E. Goudge analysed: 4.40% SiO2, 0.56% Fe2O3, 0.32% Al2O3, 0.04% Ca3(PO4)2, 89.32% CaCO3 and 5.25% Mg CO3.
