Lithology Comments

Sep 26, 2011 (A Wilson) - Satterlly reports that the quarry was 150 feet long and from 40 to 50 feet wide. The face of the quarry was 10-15 feet high. The upper 8 feet was describes as thinly bedded, grey calcium limestone containing silicified fossils.




Mineralization Comments

Sep 26, 2011 (A Wilson) - A grab sample of the limestone collected from 0.5 miles south the old Canadian Jamieson kiln by G.E. Goudge analysed: 2.48% SiO2, 0.53% Fe2O3, 0.37% Al2O3, 0.06% Ca3(PO4)2, 93.68% CaCO3 and 1.67% Mg CO3. The material was shipped to Sawinigan Falls, Quebec for used in the manufacture of calcium carbide. Buildings in the community of Sand Point are reportedly constructed from this stone.
