May 13, 2013 (A Wilson) - Saugeen clay was used to produce the bricks. Approximately 12 feet of exposed clay was observed in the pit. The clay reportedly had more stones intermixed within the deposit and the deposit was underlain by gravel.

Mineralization Comments

May 13, 2013 (A Wilson) - The yard produced approximately 400,000 bricks per season using horse-powered equipment by the 1930’s approximately 100,000 red, soft mud bricks were produced in a 3-month season. The clay was noted as being red-burning. A sample of the clay assayed by the ODM in 1906 returned 62.30% SiO2, 5.65% Fe2O3, 16.51% Al2O3, 0.09 Ca3(PO4)2, 3.16 CaCO3 and 2.68% MgCO3, 2.25% soda and 2.61% potash.
