May 14, 2013 (A Wilson) - The stone is described as brown, fine-grained, calcium limestone. In 1944, the quarry had a 25 ft face towards the west, and was 260 by 165 feet. The quarry was presumably re-used for construction aggregate for road construction. An abandoned quarry in Paleozoic (Gull River) limestone is comprised of thinly bedded calcium limestone, interbedded with fine-grained brownish calcium limestone containing shale interbeds. A single 5 ft thick bed of dense-textured limestone was observed in the quarry.
May 14, 2013 (A Wilson) - The stone was used for road construction prior to 1938. The site was been reactivated in the 1990’s. A sample of the limestone collected by Goudge assayed 2.44% SiO2, 0.40% Fe2O3, 0.69% Al2O3, 0.19% Ca3(PO4)2, 92.27 CaCO3, 2.42% MgCO3.
