Lithology Comments

May 13, 2013 (A Wilson) - The stone consists of a belt several hundred feet wide, striking from 7-20º east of north and dipping east at 60º. There is little or no bedding apparent in the rock, but joints range from 5 to 10 feet apart. The rock is coarse-grained, white crystalline dolomitic marble. The belt is flanked on either side by impure dolomite containing much colourless quartz and also masses of amphibolite. The stone is white, even in grain and free of impurities. The stone was used for construction of buildings at Pembroke, Sault Ste. Marie and the Catholic church at Douglas.

Mineralization Comments

May 13, 2013 (A Wilson) - Tremolite is common along the joint planes of the unit. The stone was quarried as dimension stone and for agricultural lime. A grab sample collected by Goudge (sample 126) assayed 0.36% SiO2, 0.29% Fe2O3, 0.27% Al2O3, 0.04 Ca3(PO4)2, 55.4 CaCO3 and 43.9% MgCO3. The stone was quarried for use as marble and for making lime.
