May 14, 2013 (A Wilson) - Marl extends over a large portion of the bottom of the lake, showing along the shores, especially on the south side. The depth of the deposit is in places over 9 feet, the lake is shallow and th elake can be drained readily.
May 14, 2013 (A Wilson) - The marl is of fair quality although the colour darkens with depth. In the 15 ½ foot section sampled by the ODM, the upper half is of better chemical quality than the lower. Average chemical composition for the complete section is 88.4% CaCO3, 1.7% MgCO3, 0.10% Fe2O3, and 1.10% insoluble. The natural particle size is 85% finer than 325 mesh, 64% finer than10 microns. The crude marl is 66.9% water; 550 pounds of dry marl are contained in one cubic yard of the crude.
