Point Location Description: Diamond symbol ' P48A ', N half of lot 24, con 16.
Location Method: Conversion from MDI
Access Description: A road extends W from Hwy 62 at the Fraser-Alice township boundary. This road ends 7.7 km W of Hwy 62, but a trail leads SW to the Indian River and the CNR track. 3.2 km W on the track a trail from the old station at Indian Siding leads N to the mines. This trail has been flooded in 2 places by beaver ponds but a new trail has been cut by hunters to bypass the flooded parts. The walls of both the main and small quarry are well-exposed but the central portions are under water.
1934-1936 : W.A. Barr worked the property for feldspar during the winter. The quarry was 125 x 45 x 22 ft deep and beyond the N end an open cut and stripping extended 55 ft and was 1-6 ft deep. There is also a small trench about 150 m S of the main quarry. The dyke was 30-40 ft wide. 460 tons were quarried in 1934, 600 tons in 1935 and 47 tons in 1936 (1,107 tons total from a probable 10,000 tons of rock quarried) - and shipped to Rochester, New York. 1954 : E.R. Woermke submitted 2 samples to the OGS for analysis - 0.51 % U3O8 and 0.55 % U3O8 (allanite). See OGS 1981, MDC 23.
Province: Grenville
Geological Age: Mesoproterozoic
Dec 07, 2005 (C Papertzian) - A curving, zoned pegmatite dyke is hosted by biotite-quartz-feldspar gneiss. Graphic granite forms a border zone and large microcline crystals have formed (up to 3 x 4 x 5 ft). The microcline-quartz zone is 60-70 % feldspar and the quartz core at the S end has up to 30 % feldspar. See OGS 1981, MDC 23 for a detailed description of the radioactive mineralization of the pegmatite and maps of the workings.

Apr 20, 2022 (Sheree Hinz) - The North Mine was worked from 1934 to 1936 by W.J. Barr and 1107 tons of feldspar were produced.
