Point Location Description: Map number 48 at Hogsback.
Location Method: Conversion from MDI
Access Description: On the Merivale Road, E of the locks at the Hogsback.
Pre-1912 : heavy stone from this quarry was used in canal construction. This quarry was not in production in 1912 but the Rideau Canal Supply Co quarry (in the same area or the same quarry?) was producing in 1917 - 'a considerable tonnage of crushed stone for the Ottawa market'.
Province: Paleozoic and Mesozoic Basins
Dec 07, 2005 (C Papertzian) - The stone of the Government Quarry is described as variably-bedded (12-16 inches) with many joints. It is dark grey with bituminous partings.
